Unclaimed property data sources & methodology
Data current as of September 9, 2026.
Every record on MyLostProperty.org comes from an authoritative public source. We aggregate the bulk data that state unclaimed-property programs publish, plus select municipal open-data portals, and make it searchable in one place. We never add, alter, or invent records — we standardize names and addresses for search and link you back to the official program to claim.

Where the data comes from
Our records are loaded from official state unclaimed-property programs — such as California, Texas, Wisconsin, Montana, and Alaska — along with select municipal open-data portals. We are actively adding more programs. Because large state programs hold property owed to people who lived or did business there from all over the country, you may find records here no matter which state you live in now.
For any program we haven't loaded yet, the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators (NAUPA) maintains the authoritative directory of every state's official program at unclaimed.org.
Federal, local and international source connectors
Public claimant lists can become searchable records. Case-level opportunities stay separate, and private or identity-verified services remain official outbound searches—we do not bypass logins, CAPTCHAs, license restrictions or government access controls.

How often it's refreshed
State programs republish their bulk files on their own schedules — some annually, some more often. Our importer checks for updated files and loads new records as they're published, so the data here tracks the official sources. It was last refreshed on September 9, 2026.Because a record is removed from a state's file once it's claimed, always confirm a match against the official program before assuming it's still available.
Unclaimed and unidentified people
Medical-examiner records are kept entirely separate from financial property. Our dedicated section omits graphic images and links every result to the official publisher.

Physical items published by university police departments use a separate privacy-filtered inventory. Identity documents and payment cards are excluded entirely.
