Editorial policy & corrections
MyLostProperty.org is operated by TheDataProject.AI. Our goal is to make public unclaimed-property data and official claim instructions easier to understand without charging owners or filing claims for them.
How we research guides
We prioritize primary sources: state treasury, comptroller, revenue-department, and other official program websites; the National Association of Unclaimed Property Administrators; and relevant federal agencies. Each guide lists the principal official sources used in its review. We distinguish general education from state-specific requirements and direct readers to the holding program for the final, current instructions.
Data and automation
Directory records come from official bulk datasets and selected government open-data portals. Our software standardizes fields and supports fuzzy name matching, but it does not determine ownership or approve claims. Record details can be incomplete or outdated; users should verify every match with the official program. See our data sources and methodology.
Updates and corrections
Guide dates change only after a substantive review or update. Directory freshness reflects the latest completed data import. To report an error, send the page URL and supporting official source to info@thedataproject.ai. We investigate documented corrections and update the affected content or source pipeline when warranted.
Important limitation
Our guides are general educational information, not legal, tax, or financial advice. Rules and required documents differ by jurisdiction and claim. The official program holding the property is authoritative.
